Editorial policy
How picks are chosen and removed, how commission is contained, and what happens when we get something wrong.
No sponsored placements. No free products. No manufacturer input into rankings. Rankings are set from published specifications before any affiliate link is built, and commission never affects order — which matters here because commission scales with price, so our recommendations systematically earn us less than the alternative would.
Independence
- We accept no sponsored placements. No manufacturer has ever paid to appear on this site and none will.
- We accept no free products. Nothing has been sent to us, which is straightforward since we do not test anything.
- No manufacturer sees a ranking before it publishes, and none has any input into what is included or in what order.
- No brand relationship affects coverage. Amazon is currently the only retailer we have a commercial relationship with, and that relationship is with a retailer rather than with any manufacturer whose products we rank.
How commission is contained
Affiliate commission scales with the price of what you buy. On a site built around value picks that means the recommendations we make earn us less than the ones we decline to make. That is the honest shape of the conflict and we would rather name it than let you discover it.
Three things contain it structurally rather than by good intentions:
- Ranking order is set from published specifications before any link exists. The scoring rubric on How We Pick is applied to spec sheets, and links are attached afterwards.
- Every ranking names a machine to skip. A page that recommends everything earns more and is worth less.
- We recommend not buying, where that is the answer. Renting a carpet cleaner rather than owning one, keeping a bucket and mop, buying two cheap machines instead of one expensive one — all of those cost us commission and all of them are on this site because they are correct.
How picks are chosen
The full method is on How We Pick. In summary: manufacturer-published specifications only, attributed and dated; three-year running costs computed from published wattage and stated consumable intervals; a value delta against the category flagship; an explicit limits section; and at least one named machine to avoid.
Scores are editorial judgments about published specifications. They are not measurements, they are not test results, and they never appear in this site's structured data — marking an opinion up as a product review rating would contradict the entire premise.
How picks are removed
- A pick that crosses its page's price ceiling is removed, not rationalized. A machine on a page titled "under $200" that costs $215 does not belong there.
- A discontinued machine is removed once it is no longer generally available.
- A machine whose published specification changes is re-evaluated at the next review, and the page is updated with the new figures and a new modified date.
- A machine we got wrong is removed immediately and the correction is logged below.
Corrections
Every figure on this site is traceable to a manufacturer's published document, which means every error is findable and checkable. If you find one, email us at the address on the contact page.
Our correction policy: a factual error is fixed as soon as it is confirmed, the page's modified date is updated, and a dated entry is added to the log below describing what was wrong and what it was changed to. We do not silently edit pages and pretend the earlier version did not exist.

What we will never publish
- A testing claim. We have not tested these machines and no page here will ever imply otherwise.
- A fabricated price. Prices come from a live lookup or the page says "Check price". No code path on this site can display a remembered number.
- A review, testimonial or star rating. We have no customers and no test data, so any of the three would be invented.
- Review or aggregate-rating structured data. Our editorial scores stay on the page as content and never enter the JSON-LD.
- A specification we could not source. Where a manufacturer publishes nothing, the table says "Not published".
Author policy
Every page on this site is written under a single byline, and that byline claims no credentials, no tenure and no professional standing — because there are none. There is no expert panel and no editorial board. The about page states the positioning in full, including what it deliberately does not say.

Do manufacturers pay to appear on this site?

How do you handle corrections?
A confirmed factual error is fixed immediately, the page's modified date is updated, and a dated entry describing the change is added to the correction log on this page. We do not silently edit pages.
How often is content updated?
Prices daily and automatically, price-ceiling pages monthly, rankings and specification citations quarterly, comparisons twice yearly, guides annually — plus an immediate update whenever an error is reported.
Why is your correction log empty?
Because the site published on September 1, 2026 and no corrections have been needed yet. It will be populated as errors are found rather than removed if none are.
