Cordless & Stick Vacuums

Tineco vs Shark cordless vacuums

Shark sells more machines on this site than any other brand. Tineco publishes more numbers per machine than almost any brand. Those two sentences are the whole comparison.

By Scooter M. · Published October 17, 2026

Everyone in this category says they tested twenty vacuums. We have not tested any, and we say so. What we do instead is read the manuals, compile the published specifications, and work out what each machine costs to run for three years — the method is written out in full.

We earn a commission if you buy through the links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It never changes what we recommend or the order we recommend it in. Full disclosure.

Buy Shark if you want sealed filtration with a named test standard and the widest range to choose from; buy Tineco if you want the quietest published stick vacuum here and the biggest bin for the money. Shark's Anti-Allergen Complete Seal is a whole-body claim and the brand's filtration figures name ASTM F1977 with a laboratory behind them — nothing Tineco publishes comes close on that one axis. Tineco answers with the 67.1 dB Tineco A30S, the quietest cordless rating on this site, a 1-liter bin on the A20 against Shark's 0.79 quarts at the same tier, and a floor-washer line Shark only recently started competing with. Neither brand publishes a suction figure in a comparable unit on any machine here.

How we judged two brands against each other

A brand comparison is only honest if it is a comparison of what the brands publish, because that is the only thing that exists in common across their ranges. We have not tested either company's machines. So the criteria are disclosure-shaped:

  • Does the filtration claim name a standard? "HEPA" describes a filter element. A sealed-body claim with a named test method is a different and much stronger statement, and the two brands are not equal here.
  • How is runtime stated? Every brand quotes a flattering number. The question is whether it says which mode and which tool the figure belongs to, because on a cordless vacuum that gap is the difference between 50 minutes and 12.
  • Bin capacity, in whatever unit the brand publishes. The figure that decides how often you interrupt a clean, and one of the few both brands actually state.
  • Noise. Published by some machines in both ranges and not others, which is itself informative.
  • Warranty. The only specification that costs the manufacturer money, and therefore the one worth most.

The published sheets

Three matched pairs across the two ranges, on each manufacturer's own published figures.

Every figure is that manufacturer's own published number for that model. Where a cell reads "See card", the product card below carries the brand's precise wording, which is more specific than a table cell can be.

Where Shark is genuinely ahead: the filtration claim

This is the one axis where the difference is not a matter of taste. Shark publishes Anti-Allergen Complete Seal, which is a claim about the whole machine body rather than about a filter element, and on several machines it pairs that with a figure measured to ASTM F1977-22 and attributed to IBR Laboratories by name. Tineco publishes "HEPA" on the A30S, the A20 and the Floor ONE Stretch S6, with no percentage, no standard and no sealed-body claim on any of them.

The distinction matters because a vacuum can hold a genuine HEPA element and still leak dust around it — air takes the easiest path and an unsealed body offers plenty. For an allergy household that is the whole question, and it is why Shark machines occupy most of the allergy roundup. For anyone else it is a tie-breaker rather than a decision.

Where Tineco is genuinely ahead: noise and bin size

The Tineco A30S publishes 67.1 dB, the quietest rating of any cordless stick vacuum on this site. Shark publishes 80 dB on the IX141 and on the corded HV371 and does not publish a figure at all on the IZ376H. Thirteen decibels is not a marginal difference — it is roughly the gap between a machine you can run while somebody is on a call and one you cannot. For apartments, shift workers and houses with babies, it is the specification that decides it.

Bin size runs the same way. The Tineco A20 publishes 1 liter where the closely matched Shark IX141 publishes 0.34 quarts, which is about 0.32 liters — roughly a third. Shark's IZ376H closes most of that gap at 0.79 quarts, but it is a tier up. A bigger bin on a cordless machine means fewer interruptions on exactly the kind of clean these vacuums are bought for.

The warranty, and the surprise in it

Neither brand publishes a warranty term on any cordless machine on this page. Both publish nothing on their flagship sticks. That is the ordinary state of this category and it is worth saying plainly rather than letting silence imply coverage.

The exception is the one machine here with no battery in it. The Shark Rocket Pro DLX HV371 publishes a 5-year limited warranty, matched on this site only by three other corded Sharks and the Hoover SmartWash Pet. That is not a coincidence: a corded machine has no cell to degrade, which is the component most likely to end a cordless vacuum and the one nobody publishes a cycle rating for. If a written warranty is what you are shopping for, the honest answer is that it lives on the corded side of both ranges, not on the cordless side of either.

The one place they are competing hardest

Tineco built its reputation on floor washers — the wet/dry machines that wash and recover in one pass — and Shark has arrived in that category more recently with the HydroVac line. The Floor ONE Stretch S6 publishes 40 minutes, 78 dB, a 158°F water flush with sealed hot drying, and a 180-degree recline that compresses to 5.1 inches to get under furniture. That last figure is the one nothing from Shark answers.

Shark's answer is the HydroVac, which publishes a deeper self-clean claim and a shorter runtime. That comparison is worked through properly against Bissell on the HydroVac versus CrossWave page, and the whole shelf is ranked on the wet/dry roundup.

What the numbers say

  • Publishes a suction figure (160 W) at all, which most of this price band refuses to do
  • 1-liter bin, 5.3 lb, and the runtime split is stated by tool
  • 67.1 dB rated — around 13 dB below the Shark line, which is a large perceived difference

Where it stops

  • Tineco's spare parts network is thinner than Shark's or Bissell's
  • The 60-minute headline is the crevice-tool figure; the number that matters is 40
  • No stated battery-cycle rating, so battery life over years is unknowable from the sheet

Who it is for

Apartments and shared walls, where 67 dB versus 80 dB is the difference between cleaning at 9pm and not.

Every figure above is the manufacturer's own published number. Where a manufacturer publishes nothing, the row says "Not published" rather than an estimate.

What the numbers say

  • 0.79 quarts is more than double the IX141 and the practical difference is one empty per clean instead of three
  • PowerFins self-cleaning brushroll plus FloorDetect
  • Dirt-Reveal lighting is a gimmick that turns out to be useful on dark hardwood

Where it stops

  • 7.9 lb is the heaviest cordless on this page, and above-floor work is where you feel it
  • Same 181 W motor and same 40-minute rating as the cheaper IX141
  • Costs more for capacity and lighting, not for power

Who it is for

Larger single-floor homes where the interruption you resent is emptying the bin, not recharging.

Skip it if

You mostly clean stairs and above-floor. At 7.9 lb this is the wrong machine for overhead work; the 6.2 lb Levoit or the 6.9 lb IX141 is the better buy.

What the numbers say

  • Runtime figure states where it was measured, which most listings in this price band do not
  • Converts to a handheld, and the crevice plus pet multi-tool are in the box
  • Freestanding storage clips at the base of the wand, so it does not need a wall mount

Where it stops

  • 0.34-quart cup is the smallest of the Shark cordless line and needs emptying mid-clean in a house
  • Bristle brushroll, not the self-cleaning PowerFins head on the dearer models
  • No suction figure published in any unit, so it cannot be compared numerically to a Dyson

What the numbers say

  • 5.1 inches when flat is the only lay-flat height published on this page, and it is low enough for most beds and sofas
  • 40 minutes, with a published claim that the runtime holds after repeated use, which nobody else here makes
  • 9.9 lb is light for a machine carrying two water tanks

What the numbers say

  • A five-year warranty, which is two to five times what most floor-care brands publish
  • Converts to a hand vacuum with a foot pedal rather than a two-handed twist

Where it stops

  • Washable foam filters and no HEPA claim, on a machine sold for pet households
  • No cord length published anywhere on the listing, which is the one figure a corded machine should always state
  • 500 watts is half what a full-size corded upright draws, and on deep pile that gap shows

Who it is for

A mostly hard-floor home with a shedding pet, where the vacuum gets used in short bursts and a bigger cup means fewer trips to the bin.

Which brand, for which buyer

  • Allergies in the house — Shark, without much argument. A sealed-body claim with a named test standard and a named laboratory is the strongest filtration disclosure in this comparison and Tineco publishes nothing equivalent.
  • A quiet machine — Tineco. The A30S at 67.1 dB is the quietest rating of any cordless stick here, and Shark's published figures are 80 dB where they exist at all.
  • The fewest interruptions — Tineco. A 1-liter bin on the A20 against about a third of that on the matched Shark.
  • Hard floors that need washing, not just vacuuming — Tineco, on the strength of the Floor ONE line and the 5.1-inch lay-flat figure.
  • A written warranty — Shark, but only on the corded Rocket Pro DLX at 5 years. Neither brand publishes a term on any cordless machine here.
  • Range and parts availability — Shark. It is the most-stocked brand on this site by a wide margin, which matters in year three when you need a brushroll.

What we cannot tell you

We have not used any machine from either brand. Neither company publishes suction in air watts or pascals on any model here, so nothing above ranks them on cleaning power — a comparison nobody reading public listings can honestly make. Nor can a spec sheet tell you which brand's plastics survive five years, whose batteries hold capacity, or whose service answers the phone. Our method page states where our evidence stops.

Common questions

Is Tineco better than Shark?

Neither wins outright. Shark leads on filtration disclosure — Anti-Allergen Complete Seal is a whole-body claim and several models name ASTM F1977-22 with IBR Laboratories as the testing lab, where Tineco publishes only the word HEPA. Tineco leads on noise, with the A30S at 67.1 dB against Shark's published 80 dB, and on bin size, with 1 liter on the A20 against about a third of that on the matched Shark. Buy Shark for allergies and range, Tineco for a quiet machine with a big bin.

Which is quieter, Tineco or Shark?

Tineco, by a wide margin where both publish a figure. The Tineco A30S publishes 67.1 dB, the quietest rating of any cordless stick vacuum on this site. Shark publishes 80 dB on the IX141 and on the corded Rocket Pro DLX, and publishes no noise rating at all on the PowerPro Reveal Plus IZ376H. Thirteen decibels is roughly the difference between a machine you can run while somebody is on a call and one you cannot.

Does Tineco or Shark have better filtration?

Shark, on what is published. Shark's Anti-Allergen Complete Seal is a claim about the whole machine body, and on several models it is paired with a figure measured to ASTM F1977-22 and attributed to IBR Laboratories by name. Tineco publishes the word HEPA on the A30S, the A20 and the Floor ONE Stretch S6 with no percentage, no named standard and no sealed-body claim. A vacuum can hold a real HEPA element and still leak dust around it, which is what the sealed-body claim addresses.

Do Tineco or Shark cordless vacuums come with a warranty?

Neither brand publishes a warranty term on any cordless machine on this page. The one exception in either range is corded: the Shark Rocket Pro DLX HV371 publishes a 5-year limited warranty, matched here only by three other corded Sharks and the Hoover SmartWash Pet. That is consistent with the pattern across the whole category — the machines with published warranties are the ones with no battery to degrade.

Tineco vs Shark for wet dry vacuums?

Tineco has the longer history in floor washers and the stronger published sheet. The Floor ONE Stretch S6 publishes 40 minutes, 78 dB, a 158-degree water flush with sealed hot drying, and a 180-degree recline compressing to 5.1 inches for cleaning under furniture — a figure Shark does not answer. Shark's HydroVac MessMaster publishes a deeper self-clean claim but only 23 minutes of runtime on the cordless model.

How much suction does a Tineco or Shark cordless vacuum have?

Neither brand publishes a suction figure in air watts or pascals for any machine in this comparison. Both publish motor wattage — 181 watts on the Shark IX141 and IZ376H, 300 watts on the Tineco A20 — but wattage is power drawn, not suction delivered, and it is not comparable between designs. Anyone ranking these two brands on suction is working from a number neither company publishes.
