Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution review

Bissell's mid-range extractor publishes a full gallon, dual brushrolls and a 30-minute dry claim. It does not publish a warranty term, and the one word in its name that sells it is the one word it never defines.

By Scooter M. · Published October 17, 2026

Everyone in this category says they tested twenty vacuums. We have not tested any, and we say so. What we do instead is read the manuals, compile the published specifications, and work out what each machine costs to run for three years — the method is written out in full.

We earn a commission if you buy through the links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It never changes what we recommend or the order we recommend it in. Full disclosure.

The verdict: buy the ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro Plus if you want a full gallon of tank and dual counter-rotating brushrolls, and buy the Hoover SmartWash Pet instead if a published warranty matters more to you than tank size. Bissell publishes a 3.79-liter tank — a full gallon, double the Hoover's half — along with dual brushrolls and a 30-minute Express Clean dry claim. It publishes no warranty term at all, where Hoover publishes five years on the SmartWash. That single disclosure gap is the real decision on this shelf.

The gallon tank is the real reason to buy it

A carpet extractor is a machine you interrupt. You fill it, you clean until the dirty tank is full or the clean tank is empty, and then you walk to a sink. Tank capacity is therefore not a convenience specification on these machines, it is the thing that decides how long a room takes — and 3.79 liters is double what Hoover publishes on both the SmartWash Pet and the PowerDash Pet.

In practical terms that is one trip to the sink instead of two on an average living room, and the gap grows with the floor. Bissell applies the same gallon figure across the TurboClean 3952, the TurboClean PET 3948 and the TurboClean Pet XL 3746, so the capacity advantage here is a Bissell-wide decision rather than something unique to the ProHeat. What the ProHeat adds over those cheaper machines is the brush system and the heater.

Dual counter-rotating brushrolls, and what that is worth

The TurboClean line uses a 4-row DeepReach PowerBrush — one roller, four rows of bristles. The ProHeat uses two rollers turning against each other. Mechanically that means the pile is worked from both directions in a single pass rather than combed one way, which is the same principle behind Hoover's five-brush SpinScrub head on the PowerScrub Deluxe.

It is a genuine design difference and it is the main thing the extra money buys over a TurboClean. It is also where honesty requires a stop: neither Bissell nor Hoover publishes any measured soil-removal figure, for either brush design, so nobody can tell you how much cleaner two rollers get a carpet than one. What can be said is that it is a more capable head on paper, and that it is the reason this machine sits in the middle of Bissell's range rather than the bottom.

The 30-minute dry claim, read carefully

Bissell states that carpets can be dry in about 30 minutes on the Express Clean setting. That is a real and useful claim, and it is also a claim about a mode, not about the machine. Express Clean is the lower-water setting; the whole reason it dries faster is that it puts less solution down. On a deep clean at full water the drying time is not published, and it will be considerably longer.

That is not a criticism — a fast-dry mode on a machine with a gallon tank is a sensible pairing, and a 30-minute turnaround is genuinely the difference between cleaning a room on a weekday and losing it for an afternoon. It is a criticism of how the figure is usually repeated. The machine does not dry carpets in 30 minutes. One of its modes does, by cleaning less deeply.

Where the Hoover SmartWash Pet beats it outright

These two are the most directly cross-shopped machines in this category, and the comparison does not go one way. The SmartWash publishes five years of warranty — the longest term of any carpet cleaner on this site, and two years longer than anything else in this category. The ProHeat publishes none, and neither does any other Bissell extractor we carry. On a machine full of pumps, seals and a heater, that is a substantial thing for one brand to put in writing and the other to decline.

The two machines buyers compare most often, on each one's published figures.

All figures are each manufacturer's own published values. Neither brand publishes a suction figure or a measured soil-removal result, which is why this table compares capacity, mechanism and disclosure rather than cleaning power.

The split is clean enough to state as a rule. Buy the Bissell for tank capacity and the brush system; buy the Hoover for the warranty and for not having to hold a trigger across a whole floor. The brand-level version of this argument, across six machines, is Bissell vs Hoover carpet cleaners.

Every figure above is the manufacturer's own published number. Where a manufacturer publishes nothing, the row says "Not published" rather than an estimate.

What the numbers say

  • Dual counter-rotating brushrolls double the agitation of the single-brush machines
  • A published drying-time claim, which almost nobody in this category makes
  • Built-in pre-treater means you are not carrying a spray bottle around as well
  • 8-foot hose, the longest here

Where it stops

  • Two formulas included means two formulas to keep buying
  • The most expensive machine on this page
  • Bissell does not publish a comparable machine weight for this model

Who it is for

Households with recurring pet accidents, where the same spots get cleaned repeatedly.

Every figure above is the manufacturer's own published number. Where a manufacturer publishes nothing, the row says "Not published" rather than an estimate.

What the numbers say

  • A 5-year warranty is an unusual thing to publish on a machine full of pumps and seals, and it is worth real money
  • No trigger to hold is a genuine relief over a whole room
  • Spot Chaser pre-treat wand is detachable and useful on its own

Where it stops

  • 0.5-gallon tank on a 20.5 lb machine is the worst capacity-to-weight ratio here
  • The tall 43.5-inch body needs proper storage height
  • Automatic operation means less control over a stubborn patch

Who it is for

Buyers who value the warranty and hate holding a trigger.

Every figure above is the manufacturer's own published number. Where a manufacturer publishes nothing, the row says "Not published" rather than an estimate.

What the numbers say

  • 1-gallon tank at the bottom of the price band, which is what saves the sink trips
  • 4-row brush is the same agitation as the dearer TurboClean models
  • 16.3 lb is manageable up a flight of stairs, unlike the 23 lb XL
  • Bissell formula is stocked in ordinary supermarkets, not just online

Where it stops

  • No hose and no above-floor tools — carpet and rugs only
  • No heater, so it relies on the temperature of the water you pour in
  • The formula is a permanent running cost

Who it is for

Flat carpet and area rugs in a small-to-mid home, on the lowest sensible budget.

What the numbers say

  • Five brushes attack pile from multiple angles rather than one
  • Auto Mix removes the guesswork that wastes formula and leaves residue
  • 8-foot hose with three tools and a bag to keep them in
  • 2-year warranty

Where it stops

  • 18.5 lb and a wide 21.9-inch body — awkward on stairs and in a closet

What it costs to keep

The purchase price is not the number that matters most on an extractor. Bissell formula is a permanent purchase, every one of these machines is designed around its own brand's solution, and nobody publishes a cost per room. That recurring bill is the main argument for borrowing rather than buying if you clean carpet once a year — rent versus buy works that arithmetic out properly on published rental pricing.

The second cost is the brushes. Two counter-rotating rollers are two wear items rather than one, and Bissell does not publish a replacement interval for either. Against that, there is no bag, no filter subscription and no battery — the three things that end most machines on this site do not apply to a corded extractor at all. On a machine kept five years, the formula is almost certainly the largest line.

Who should buy it, and who should not

  • Buy it if you have a decent amount of carpet, you want the biggest tank published in this category, and you value a two-roller head over a one-roller head on a machine you will own for years.
  • Buy the Hoover SmartWash Pet instead if a five-year written warranty is worth more to you than double the tank, or if holding a trigger across a whole floor is the part of this job you dislike.
  • Buy the Bissell TurboClean 3952 instead if you want the same gallon tank for meaningfully less money and can do without the dual brushrolls and the heater. It is the same capacity on a simpler machine.
  • Buy the Hoover PowerScrub Deluxe instead if brush count is how you want to spend the money: five counter-rotating SpinScrub brushes against this machine's two.
  • Buy nothing here if the job is a mattress, a sofa or a car. A 17.5 lb upright is the wrong shape for all three — a portable is the right machine.

What we cannot tell you

We have not used this machine. Nothing above is a test result. A specification sheet cannot tell you how much soil two counter-rotating brushes lift against one, how warm the water actually stays, how long a pump lasts, or whether a carpet is genuinely dry in half an hour on your pile and your humidity. Bissell publishes no suction figure, no temperature, no soil-removal result and no warranty term, and those gaps are the honest limit of this review. Our method page sets out exactly where our evidence stops and why we still publish a score.

Common questions

Is the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution worth it?

It is if the tank is what you are buying. Bissell publishes 3.79 liters — a full gallon — against Hoover's half gallon on the SmartWash Pet, plus dual counter-rotating brushrolls where the cheaper TurboClean line uses one. The reason to hesitate is disclosure: Bissell publishes no warranty term on this machine, while Hoover publishes five years on the SmartWash, the longest term of any carpet cleaner here. Buy the Bissell for capacity and mechanism, the Hoover for the written warranty.

What does Heatwave Technology actually do?

Bissell's published claim is that it maintains water temperature. It is not a claim to heat cold water, and no temperature figure appears anywhere on the listing — no degrees and no rise over ambient. So the accurate description is that it slows the cooling of hot water you put in yourself. Whether that changes the cleaning result is not something any published figure answers.

Does the ProHeat 2X Revolution really dry carpets in 30 minutes?

Bissell states about 30 minutes on the Express Clean setting specifically. Express Clean is the lower-water mode, and it dries faster because it puts less solution down. Drying time on a full-water deep clean is not published and will be considerably longer. The claim is true about a mode, not about the machine.

Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution or Hoover SmartWash?

Bissell publishes double the tank — a full gallon against half — plus dual counter-rotating brushrolls and a 30-minute Express Clean dry claim. Hoover publishes a five-year warranty, the longest of any carpet cleaner on this site, along with automatic motion-sensing operation that removes the trigger and Auto Mix solution metering. Choose the Bissell on capacity and brush design, the Hoover on warranty and ease over a whole floor.

How much suction does the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution have?

Bissell does not publish a suction figure for this machine in pascals, air watts or any other comparable unit, and neither does Hoover for the machines it competes with. Nobody in this category publishes a measured soil-removal result either. That is why this review compares tank capacity, brush mechanism and disclosure rather than ranking the machines on cleaning power.

What is the difference between the ProHeat 2X Revolution and the Bissell TurboClean?

Both publish the same full-gallon tank, so the capacity is identical. The ProHeat adds dual counter-rotating DirtLifter PowerBrushes where the TurboClean line uses a single 4-row DeepReach PowerBrush, plus Heatwave temperature maintenance and the Express Clean fast-dry mode. If you do not need the second roller or the heater, the TurboClean 3952 is the same tank on a simpler and cheaper machine.
